There is a Simpsons Quote for Everything, I Tell You What…

Sigh. I’ve been headhunted, again, for some reason.

Good company. Boring ass position that I wouldn’t like but the pay would be awesome. What’s that you say, it’s entirely in office and not remote nor hybrid? That is going to be a HARD PASS. They showed me where my office would be (yes I went to the interview. Yes they’d probably hire me if I let them.) and I said “Huh, well at least I’d be able to see if my car is getting broken into.” as I looked at the lovely view of the parking lot.

Will not be taking that one! Besides, I had a feeling I was there primarily to check a box for their diversification efforts. Lot of old white guys in upper management at that one.

I then left that interview and went straight to an estate sale nearby… thanks current remote job!

Now THIS is the full time work I’d take if I could but pull it off! Bought a bunch of stuff (Mexican folk art, mainly as well as a bunch of Mexican folk art reference books to add to my collection) but the best thing was this:

I put it on the hold table. Then didn’t trust it wouldn’t get knocked off so I picked it back up and carried it with me the rest of the sale. I don’t really know why. It didn’t have any markings or signatures. The glaze looked mid century to me, so I figured it had some age. But I tell you, that thing called to me.

So that is a Lagardo Tackett pitcher (designed by James Solomon) from 1953. There it is up in the MOMA good design exhibition back in the day. Research showed me there hadn’t been one sold since 2011, at least not that I could find.

I put it on auction yesterday and within an hour it had a bid for (and I shit you not) $550. It still has 6 days to go for more bidding. Bird pitcher people be crazy.

I paid $21 for it.

Thanks champagne taste, now do it every two days for the entire year and we’d be able to go full time!

It’s still just a hobby, though a lucrative one at least!

In other hobbies:

My ornamental grass in the backyard around the deck: aka: BACKYARD WHEAT.

Corgi for scale and to prove to Theresa she’s not TOO fat. Yet.

Backyard wheat is the best. It’s easy to grow, super pretty, and I have a german made, stone hand mill (another estate sale find) to grind it into flour here in a few weeks- though you can do it in a food processor too. And I’m most excited to do this with it:

We’ve gotten really into making our own pizza dough- cannot WAIT to use my own flour to do that, made from wheat we freaking grew! (And we make the pizza sauce, I annoyingly feel like I need to add here. Also we grow the oregano and basil… and I may be researching mozzarella.)

My transition into the Little Red Hen is almost complete.

And speaking of hens:

There is Ricotta and the three chicks we ended up keeping. (Gave the other 3 extras to my husband’s aunt and uncle- they were all solid brown.) Adorably Ricotta has adopted them like her own chicks; it’s a dynamic we haven’t had in the backyard before and it is maybe (no it’s not) worth the struggle of the rooster thing and them being so small for so long. They have grown enough to at least not fit through the wire mesh anymore, so that’s nice.

From left to right there is Luna, the Lavender Orpington. (Lavender is chicken speak for grey) Ricotta, the Splash Orpington who’s only splashes are the one black feather on her chest and a few grey ones on her neck. Strawberry, the brown colored Cinnamon Queen. And the lightest colored Cinnamon Queen (who I think must be a hybrid because those colors are not right for the breed) and who looks to be a motherfucking rooster. Look at that goddamn posture and size difference, will you?! Grrr. We have all forgotten it’s name, and I’m disinclined to give it a new one. I keep a watch on that one’s growth with an eagle eye…

And remember when I said I didn’t want brown chickens? Of course that means Strawberry is my favorite of the new lot because of course she is.

In other news my oldest is in a band now.

Check out that shit!

Super punk rock.

This has also gotten our middle one to start practicing again. Nothing like some good ol’ sibling inspiration to get the instruments picked back up around here! And there will always be a demand for hot chick bass players, so it’s a solid choice.

We approve and the band- it is a good fit, seems like. Decent dudes. Decent music they write themselves. And most importantly the band name isn’t terrible!

Go be a human in the world, you!

As a parent you love to see it you know?

The kids…the kids are alright, I tell you what.

  1. Well Birdie is looking positively slim compared to most corgis so I’ll give her that.<3 Also, that pizza looks amazing – I have made my own mozzarella before and it’s super easy! If you can grow and grind your own wheat you can definitely make your own cheese, lol

  2. LOL: “My transition into the Little Red Hen is almost complete.”

I love so much that you are growing wheat and you are going to harvest it and make it into flour. You are an inspiration.

That bird pitcher! You sure have an eye!
